CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Hi-Liners competed well, and also saw good competition in their boys invitational Thursday.
Valley City finished with 87 points, good enough for third place, nine points ahead of Barnes County North. Jamestown won the even with an impressive 226 points, with Kindred scoring 148.5 for a distant second, but also well ahead of the Hi-Liners.
The Hi-Liners had three championships. Nick Lee was a champion in the 3200-meter run (11:12.32), and Paul Viland continued a fine season with a title in the pole vault (11’6″). Valley City’s team won the 400-meter relay (48.43).
Lee added a second in the 1600-meter run. Dereck Durheim was third in the long jump and fifth in the 200-meter dash. Finishing fourth were Colin Naeseth in the 400-meter dash, Casey Engelhard in the high jump, and Steven Horner in the javelin. Engelhard was fifth in the 400-meter dash as well.
Jamestown won seven events. Ashton Johnson was a double-champion, winning the triple jump (39′ 7″) and the high jump (5′ 6″). Jordan Thoreson won the shot put (46′ 1″). Nathan Willer won the discus (136′ 11″) and was second to Thoreson in the shot.
In the track events, Blue Jay Michael Hust won the 200-meter dash (23.46), Jake Nieland won the 1600-meter run (4:55.09), and the Jays won the 800-meter relay.
Barnes County North won three titles. Wyatt Steckler won the 100-meter dash (11.59) and the long jump (19′ 10″), William Gerntholz took the 400-meter dash (55.56).
