(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes School Board held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday.

Among the topics discusses was the decision to spend approximately $4,000 to upgrade the bus radios used by the district. A federal mandate effective on January 1 of 2013 will make the current radios the district possesses inoperable due to a change in frequency.

With the construction work taking place this school year including additions to the locker rooms, the district learned they are $118,000 under budget. The new locker rooms are scheduled to be completed on April 23.

The district learned they will not have to make up school from a storm date from earlier this year, as it was forgiven by the state. Therefore the school year will end on time; students last day will be May 23, and staff will have their last day May 24.

The board is inviting the public to attend a discussion about the district’s long-range plan. The discussion will occur at 7 p.m. on May 7, just before the start of the next monthly school board meeting.

May 1 is the last day for residents to place in names for the Oakes Hall Of Fame.
