(NewsDakota.com) In an instant, as in most sports, a baseball game can change.
With two runners on via walks and two men out in the fifth inning, Brock Stromman hit a triple which cleared the bases, and proved to be the difference in Northern Cass’ 3-1 victory over LaMoure-Litchville Marion on Tuesday afternoon to start Region I play.
The Loboes only managed one run off of Colton Hill who threw all seven innings for the Jaguars; allowing just four hits while striking out nine. Zach Stemen took the loss for LLM, but with the exception of the fifth inning, wasn’t rattled much. The senior’s line was six innings, five hits, with all three runs earned and seven strikeouts. Tanner Carlson was the only Loboe to reach safely twice in the contest.
“All these games in Region I are always going to be close, and it comes down to pitchers not walking, and we got into trouble that inning.” said LLM head coach Derold Haugen. “We had a shot (in the latter innings), unfortunately we hit into a double play, but at least we didn’t give up.”
The Loboes who now sit at 0-1 in Region I will take on the defending state champions from Kindred/Richland on Thursday in Kindred. The Vikings hit a walk-off two run home run in the bottom of the seventh to beat Central Cass Tuesday 2-0 in their first regional contest of the young season. Coverage from Kindred starts at 4:15, with first pitch at 4:30 on Q101.1 FM and NewsDakota.com.
