M. Jewett, age 70, of Rogers, ND, died Sunday, April 01, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Valley City. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 5th at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home Chapel in Valley City. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Thursday morning. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, North Dakota.
Kenneth Marvin Jewett, son of Guy and Edith (Anderson) Jewett, was born May 17th, 1941 in Valley City. Ken grew up on the family farm near Leal, ND and attended school at Booth School and Leal before graduating from Rogers High School in 1959. He enlisted in the North Dakota Army National Guard in 1960 retiring in 2001 from HHC 1-141st Engineer Battalion in Valley City as a Staff Sergeant in the Communications Section. Ken begin working for the highway department in 1959 and worked as the District Materials Manager for many years in Valley City before retiring from the Department of Transportation in 2006. Ken served with the Valley City Fire Department for over 20 years and recently as the Chief of the Rogers Fire Department. He loved serving the community in those programs and his countless years of service were truly appreciated by all. Ken was an avid radio, electronics and computer enthusiast. He actively participated in many HAM and Side Band radio organizations. Ken utilized his communication skills and experience from the Guard building many types of equipment to support his hobby.
Ken is survived by his son Michael (Tawnie) Jewett, Alexandria, VA; and two grandchildren, Taylor & Austin Jewett, Alexandria VA; three brothers, Gordon (Karen) Jewett Valley City, ND, Vernon (Doris) Jewett, Audubon, MN, Eugene (Cheryl) Jewett, Leal, ND; one sister, Janice (Gordon) Klien, Eckelson, ND; one brother-in-law, Irvin Grossman, Horace, ND; a special friend, Sylvia Borstad, Fargo, ND.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Annette Grossman
