N.D. (AP) – A grass fire in southwest North Dakota caused a scare yesterday afternoon when it jumped Interstate 94. Authorities had to close the highway near Dickinson for about half an hour and redirected traffic. They also asked residents of about nearby 50 homes to temporarily leave as a precaution.
DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol plans will have troopers ride buses in some parts of the state to observe motorists who are violating traffic laws. They’ll radio that information to troopers in nearby squad cars. The patrol is implementing its Trooper on a Bus program in the northeastern part of the state this week.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Two companies in northeast North Dakota say they plan to expand, bringing a combined 100 new jobs to the region. Britton Transport plans to build a $3.9 million facility in Grand Forks’ industrial park. Meanwhile, Grafton steel fabricator Lean Technologies plans to buy equipment to increase its oil services.
MEDORA, N.D. (AP) – The mayor of the southwest North Dakota tourist town of Medora wants permission to build gallows on his property so he can stage mock hangings. Mayor Dug Ellison is volunteering to be the first “victim.” He says the hanging demonstrations would be safe and professional, and in the spirit of the Old West’s frontier justice.
