CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Viking softball team resumes it’s season after a trip to Florida with a shorter road trip Friday.
Valley City State will travel to Moorhead, MN, for a double-dip with Concordia College.
The Vikings take a 7-6 record with them on the road Friday, after splitting their last two games in Florida, losing to Saint Mary of the Woods, then topping Spring Arbor University, their last games being played last Thursday.
Through 13 games, Jane Pettit (Sr., Rushford, MN) leads the team at the plate, batting .459 with two homeruns, five doubles, and 12 RBI. She has walked eight times while striking out only once. Hilary Kulczewski (Jr., Windsor, CA)) leads the team in driving in runs with 13 RBI.
Jen Shadlock (Sr., Brandon, MB) leads the pitching staff with a 4-2 record, while Katie McBride (Sr., Grand Rapids, MN) has been the workhouse, logging 50 innings of work. She is 3-4 with a 2.09 ERA in 10 appearances.
To qualify for the Association of Independent Institutions (AII) tournament at the end of the year, the Vikings must be ranked in the top six, or the top five if Thomas, GA, the tourney host, is ranked outside the top five. As of this week, the Vikings are fifth, with Thomas fourth. The Vikings are the highest ranked former Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) team.
