CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Viking baseball team hits the road again this weekend, trying to break a losing streak that ended their excursion in Arizona.
Valley City State travels to Seward, NE, to take on Concordia University Saturday and Sunday. Concordia has won eight of their last 10 games, and is now 12-10 on the season.
The Vikings lost their last five games in Arizona, including a double-header with St. Ambrose, IA, and a three-game set with Dakota Wesleyan. Their record stands at 6-10 this season.
Through 16 games, Scott Stephenson (Jr., Ontario, CA) leads the Vikings, batting .465 with a homerun an 13 RBI, co-leading the team in runs driven in. Josh Evans (Sr., Hayfield, MN) and Kyle Skinner (Sr., Seattle, WA) have each driven in 13 runs as well, with Evans hitting .400 and Skinner batting .356.
Ryan Shaw (Jr., Cardale, MB) and Ronnie Blagg (Jr., La Puente, CA) are bouying the pitching staff. Shaw is 3-1 in four starts with a 4.98 ERA, while Blagg is 2-1 in four starts with a 2.98 ERA.
The Vikings play their first games at home on April 9th against Northern State University.
