G. Gylden, 75, Valley City, North Dakota, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at his home.   He was born on January 14, 1937 in LaMoure, North Dakota the son of Jack and Myrle (Malloy) Gylden.  He graduated from Dazey (ND) High School in 1955.  Gary then attended Valley City State University and received his Bachelors degree in 1959.          

He was united in marriage to Margaret McTavish in 1957 at Valley City.  Gary attained his Masters degree from Northern Colorado in 1964 and also continued to work towards a PhD but then they decided to move back to North Dakota where he taught music in Binford and Rolla.  He was superintendent in Kenmare, North Dakota for several years before finishing his teaching career in Des Lacs-Burlington school teaching music again and retiring in 2000.          

Gary was a long-time member of the State American Legion Band and also a member of the El Zagel Shrine Imperial’s Band.         

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, Valley City; two sons, Jeffrey, Valley City; Jamie (Jana), Prague; a daughter, Stephanie Gylden, Independence, California; and three grand children, Jessica, Alexandra and Elizabeth.          

Gary was preceded in death by his parents.          

Private graveside services will be held in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Valley City, at a later date          

Arrangements are by the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.
