(NewsDakota.com) The Linton-HMB girls basketball team punched their ticket to the State Class B Girls Basketball tournament in Bismarck next week, as they won the Region III Championship game in Napoleon on Thursday night, and the South Border Mustangs were victorious in the third place game.
Third Place: South Border 55 Pingree-Buchanan/Kensel 43
The lone representative in the tournament from District 5, as well as the district champs were defeated by the Mustangs to start out the double header. In the first half, South Border shot 40 percent from the floor, wheras the Rebels managed close to 25 percent. In fact, PBK only managed to shoot just over 25 percent from the field for the entire game
South Border was lead by Karly Wald and Kali Scherbenski with 16 points each; Wald had a double-double with 15 rebounds. PBK was lead in scoring by Amanda Beckley who had 14 points in the defeat.
Championship: Linton-HMB 60 Napoleon 49
In the Championship round, the host team for the tournament was never able to contain the Lions, as Linton-HMB went on a 6-0 run to start the game, and never looked back. Linton-HMB’s 33 points at the half were not reached by Napoleon until midway through the fourth quarter.
The winning Lions were lead in scoring by Kaylin Schneider with 23 points, while the losing Imperials had a double-double from Sheridan Dewald with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Linton-HMB, who’s boys basketball and football teams both went to state during this school year, will represent Region III at the State Class B Girls Basketball Tournament, which starts next Thursday in Bismarck, and will play against the winner of Region 6.
