(NewsDakota.com) – A 21-year-old Streeter man was sentenced to two years in prison with all but one day suspended Monday after previously pleading guilty to Gross Sexual Imposition in Stutsman County District Court.

Andrew Levi Dunham pleaded guilty to a Class A Felony charge of Gross Sexual Imposition after engaging in sexual contact with a girl under the age of 15 in early August 2011.

Dunham will be on supervised probation for five years and forced to pay $2000 in fines and fees. He is also required to register as a sex offender. He was given credit for one day served, meaning he will serve no more time in prison as long as he doesn’t violate probation.

During a pre-sentence investigation, Dunham said at the time he looked at the girl as being mature for her age, rather than being too young, and immediately regretted his actions following the incident.

Judge Thomas Merrick said Monday during sentencing that he thought Dunham had taken responsibility for his actions, which was a big reason for the suspended prison sentence. Merrick told Dunham he was “going to be on a short leash” during his probationary period.
