CITY (NewsDakota.com) Valley City police officer Randy Schmidt has been reinstated following a preliminary consultation with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation over from an altercation with a woman at a Valley City bar on February 26.
Interim Police Chief Mark McDonald said, based on the information provided by BCI the city felt comfortable having officer Schmidt return to work due to the BCI’s preliminary report.
City attorney Russ Myhre said, “Schmidt was off duty during the altercation at the VFW Club in Valley City.” He said, “the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation continues to conduct an investigation at the city’s request to determine if any criminal penalties might apply.”
Myhre said the city will make a determination later if any administrative penalty may apply pending the completion of this investigation.
McDonald said, “once the investigation is complete the information will be forwarded to the Barnes County State Attorney’s office for further review.”
