CITY (NewsDakota.com) Retired John Deere business executive, Keith Hovland of Valley City announced his candidacy for the District 24 state Senate seat, at the District Republican Convention on Saturday in Valley City. Hovland was nominated by his party to run in the November election.

Hovland will run for the seat now held by Democrat state Senator Larry Robinson of Valley City. Robinson has served in the state Senate since 1989.

Meanwhile, Myrene Pedersen of Enderlin was selected by the Republican’s to run for a District 24 state House seat in November.

According to the Valley City Times Record Dwight Grotberg was selected by Republicans to run for the other state House seat last Saturday but decided the next day not to run. Local District 24 party officials will announce the selection of another candidate later.

Earlier this year the District 24 Democrats chose Sharon Buhr of Valley City and Naomi Muscha of Enderlin to run in November.

Hovland said in a news release on Monday, “that his private sector experience and his long time involvement in political and charitable activities in the community give him a solid base to serve in the state Senate.” Hovland served a tour of duty in Vietnam with the U-S Army.
