(NewsDakota.com)–The size of the Fargo Davies Eagles, combined with a little home-court flavor, was too much for the Hi-Liners Friday.
Valley City was knocked out of the East Region basketball tournament with a 55-44 loss to Davies at the Fargo Civic Memorial Auditorium.
A Hi-Liner 2-3 zone confounded the Eagles through the first half, allowing Valley City to stretch their legs and earn a 13-point edge at 26-13 with about five minutes left till the break.
Davies responded with a 9-0 run to the break that ended up 15-0 after the start of the second half, reclaiming an edge at 28-26.
The Eagles then held the Hi-Liners to just five field goals in the second half, while the pummelled Valley City on the glass. Davies had 26 offensive rebounds. Several of those came over the back of Hi-Liner defenders, while the whistle remained silent, with apparently no contact being seen by the officials.
Davies stretched the lead to 17 before a late Hi-Liner run cut the deficit to 11.
Lexi Bolstad led the Eagles with 13 points, and Brooke Hildre added 11 off the bench. Sophomore Dierra Diegel scored 12 to lead the Hi-Liners, with freshman Claire Olson adding nine.
The Hi-Liner season ends at 8-14.
