(NewsDakota.com) – Despite two recent snow storms, the spring flood outlook remains good for the James River.

The latest flood outlook released Thursday by the National Weather Service says there is currently little to no chance of even minor flooding in the James River basin this spring. Drought conditions remains across much of the Missouri and James River basins.

In the Sheyenne River Valley, chances for spring flooding have increased due to the recent storms. The weather service says Valley City has a 16 percent chance of minor flooding, a 12 percent chance of moderate flooding and an 8 percent chance of major flooding. There is a 10 percent chance the Sheyenne River in Valley City could reach 16.6 feet this spring.

On the Red River, Fargo now has a 98 percent chance of minor flooding, a 58 percent chance of moderate flooding, and a 19 percent chance of major flooding.

The latest outlook says there is a 20 percent chance that Devils Lake will exceed last year’s record level of 1454.3 feet.
