CITY (NewsDakota.com) Several area schools shut down for the day due to the Winter Storm that hit the Dakotas.

The heaviest snowfall was reported in northeastern South Dakota and southwestern Minnesota were about 10 to 14 inches fell from this system. Aberdeen and Sisseton reported snowfall amounts of 10 to 12 inches on Wednesday.

Other cities further north like Fargo and Valley City reported only 5 to 6 inches of snow from this storm.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation and North Dakota Highway Patrol have LIFTED the Travel Alert for southeastern North Dakota. Interstate 29 was closed for a few hours from Fargo to Watertown, South Dakota.

All travelers are encouraged to monitor road conditions, reduce traffic speeds as weather conditions occur and use caution while traveling. For road information, call 511 from any type of phone or go to the website: www.dot.nd.gov. If you become stranded in your vehicle, please call 911.
