(NewsDakota.com) Cinderella is still dancing, and she’s left the Oakes High School girls basketball team in her wake.
The Hankinson Pirates improved their win total to four for the season and are moving on to the Region I tournament in Lisbon next week thanks to a 61-54 victory over Oakes on Monday night in a regional qualifying contest at Sargent Central High School in the District 1 girls basketball tournament.
The Tornadoes had a lead as much as 12 points in the contest, and were up a healthy 10 points after one quarter. After two, that lead dwindled to single digits, and in the fourth quarter, the Pirates earned their first lead of the game and held on for the upset victory.
Hankinson (4-16) was lead by senior Brenna Stein’s 22 points. Eight grader Betsy Asp dropped in 19 for the Pirates who now face Central Cass in the Region I Tournament.
Oakes under first year head coach Caitlyn Wojahn has their season end at 10-12 and was lead by Karli Knutson with 19 points.
