SD (NewsDakota.com)- Dickinson St. who had lost three previous meetings with the Jimmies took the No. 8 team in the country to the final possession. Tevin Hurd’s 26-foot jumper skipped off the right side of the rim and the Jimmies survived the Hawks 71-70.
It was the fourth meeting of the season between the two DAC schools and it provided the most drama of any the previous meetings. Dickinson St. jumped out to a 21-11 midway through the opening half due to some great three-point shooting.
Jamestown College stormed back scoring 12 of the next 14 to tie the game at 23. The Jimmies took control of the game and went to half up 37-32.
With 9:57 left in the game, the Jimmies held a 56-50 lead and the Blue Hawks work their way into the lead scoring nine of the next 12.
The teams traded punched down the stretch. With the Hawks leading 70-67 with under a minuet to play, Mark Hoge scored and got fouled. However, he missed the free throw, and JC’s Davon Thomas tipped back his miss to give us the Jimmies their final lead.
The win for the Jimmies guarantees them a spot in the NAIA National Tournament in Branson, MO in March.
They will battle Dakota St. Sunday for the A.I.I. Tournament Championship at 6pm. We’ll have the action for you on 103.1 FM The Raven.
