FORKS (NewsDakota.com)–The Hi-Liner girls extended their season, while the boys started hot, then faded and had their season end Saturday.
Valley City will enter the East Region girls basketball tournament as the eighth seed after a 69-65 win over Devils Lake in Devils Lake, reversing a 70-61 loss at home Thursday.
The win sends the Hi-Liners to West Fargo for the quaterfinal round of the East Region tournament.
Meanwhile, Grand Forks Central overcame a hot start by the Hi-Liners and ended Valley City’s season with a 54-46 win at Grand Forks.
Sean Norton and David Olson, the Knight’s two leading scorers, scored 44 of Grand Forks Central’s 54 points, with 23 for Norton and 21 for Olson. Olson scored 16 of his points after halftime, leading a comeback that saw the Knights reverse a 17-5 first-half Hi-Liner lead.
Chase Carpenter led the Hi-Liners with 20 points.
The Knights will face Wahpeton as the seven-seed at Wahpeton Tuesday. Valley City finishes 3-17 overall, winless against Class “A” competition this season.
