N.D. (AP) – The Dakotas are getting small a chunk of
more than $300 million in disaster assistance that the federal
government is providing to 33 states and Puerto Rico. North
Dakota’s share is $100,000, and South Dakota is getting $396,000.
The money’s aimed at helping the states recover from an unusually
intense year of natural disasters.
     
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota man is appealing is murder
conviction for killing his brother during a land dispute.
Forty-six-year-old Rodney Chisholm of Manvel says the trial judge
should have allowed more self-defense evidence. He’s serving a
30-year sentence for the fatal beating of his brother Donald.
     
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Senator Kent Conrad says
he has no plans to be the next federal budget director. The
retiring lawmaker is chairman of the Senate Budget Committee. The
current head of the Office of Management and Budget is leaving to
become President Barack Obama’s chief of staff.
     
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The holding company that owns State Bank &
Trust in Fargo is in the process of buying First National Bank. The
deal still needs regulatory approval. First National Bank has
locations in Minnesota and about 20 employees.
