(NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown School Board approved spending ,000 at Monday night’s meeting to put laptop computers in every High School English Department classroom.
At a previous meeting, the school board had approved matching funds of $70,000 for a Classroom Transformation Grant the English Department was pursuing from the North Dakota Educational Technology Council. The department announced Monday they had received the grant, but for $60,000 instead of $70,000. They asked the board Monday to approve spending the original $70,000 it had committed plus another $5,000 to help make up for the loss of funds.
The motion passed 8-1. The money will be used to purchase laptops, allowing every high school student in every English Department classroom to have their own laptop during the class period. Teachers will adjust their lesson plans to take advantage of the new technology available to the students.
“I’m very pleased that we got the grant, and very appreciative of the school board supporting the effort of the teachers by putting a little bit more money into the grant than they had to,” Superintendent Bob Toso said. “Because of that, they’re going to be able to do the program the way it was intended to be done.”
