CITY ( NewsDakota.com)–The second round of the Barnes County Girls Basketball tournament is today at the W. E. Osmon Fieldhouse in Valley City.
It will be an all-upper seed semifinal round after a round without upsets on Tuesday, and the semi-finals will lead to some intriguing matchups.
In the first semi-final, the Valley City Hi-Liners, the defending champions and top seed, will meet the Barnes County North Bison. Valley City started quickly and won a 61-26 decision over Litchville-Marion-Montpelier, with post Allyson Suhr scoring 26 points in three quarters of work.
The Bison started white hot, blitzing out to a 21-6 lead over Griggs County Central. They then lost some steam, but cruised to a 51-39 win. Lauren McMillan led the Bison with 10 points.
In the last semi-final, Northern Cass will face Maple Valley. The Jaguars eased by Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page, with Carley Ward scoring 17 points, leading three in double figures.
The Raiders led by just two at halftime, but pulled away from Enderlin with a 16-4 run in the third quarter, knocking off the Eagles 52-33. Rylee Nudell and Cassie Pautz each had 18 in the win.
The second round begins with a tipoff at 3:00 p.m. between Litchville-Marion-Montpelier facing Griggs County Central. Brenna Rodin led the Rebels with 11 in the loss to Valley City, while Presley Paintner led the Cougars with 22 against Barnes County North.
At 4:30 p.m., Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page meets Enderlin. Madison Koenig led the Spartans with 10 points against Northern Cass, and Hayleigh Lautt scored 10 in the Eagle loss to Maple Valley.
All four games will be heard on Q101 KQDJ-FM, with pregame coverage starting at 2:30 p.m.
