E. Lorenz, age 61 of Valley City died Thursday January 12, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Valley City.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Tuesday, January 17, 2012  at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City with Rev. Timothy Johnson celebrant.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery later in the spring.

Joan was born Jan. 3, 1951 at Jamestown, ND the daughter of William P. and Mathilda (Kappel) Lorenz.  She lived with her family in Oriska, ND and moved with them to Valley City in 1963.  She graduated from St. Catherine’s School in Valley City and then attended Assumption College.  She received her Associates Arts Degree from Assumption College. Returning to Valley City Joan was employed at Woolworth’s, Warren’s Bakery, Red Owl, City Lights, and for the past 16 years  at Marketplace Foods.  She was the recipient of the Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce Customer Service Award.  She enjoyed cooking and reading and spending time with her friends and going on casino trips with them.  She loved good hearted humor and being with her family , especially her nieces and nephews.  She treasured the people she came in contact with at work who made her job enjoyable.

Joan is survived by 3 brothers and 3 sisters: Peter (Nancy) Lorenz, Beloit, KS, Bonnie Lorenz, White Bear Lake, MN, Tom Lorenz, Valley City, ND, Kay (Bill) Brunner, Minot, ND, Terry (Marvin) Shape, Valley City, ND, and Jeff Lorenz, Plainsboro, NJ; 3 nieces Allison Shape, Jessica Brunner, and Karen Wright and 5 nephews Bill Lorenz, Travis Shape, Jordan Shape, Matthew Brunner, and Gregory Brunner.  She was preceded in death by her parents.
