N.D.- For the second time this season, the Oakes High School basketball teams will be going up against the Edgeley-Kulm Rebels. Unlike their previous meeting on December 29 on a neutral court in Ellendale, Tuesday night the Tornadoes will host the Rebels.
The girls had one of their best games into the young season when they took on the Rebels back on the 29th, winning the contest 59-32. Oakes started the second half with an 11-0 run in the second half, and never looked back. Unfortunately for the Tornadoes, they haven’t won since that night, last playing on Thursday in Gwinner against North Sargent, and falling short 68-64 to the Bobcats. Oakes is 2-5 overall and 0-1 in District 1 play.
The boys had a chance in their contest against the Rebels earlier this season, but poor shooting and lack of execution on fast break opportunities doomed the Tornadoes, losing 61-39 in Ellendale to the Rebels. That loss started Oakes’ current four game losing streak, culminating with a 70-47 defeat at the hands of the Bobcats of North Sargent on Friday night. Oakes is 1-8 overall and 0-4 in District 1 play.
Both games Tuesday night are set to be played in the South Gym at Oakes High School, with the girls to start around 6:15, and the boys to follow. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220 and NewsDakota.com is set for 6 p.m.
