N.D. (AP) – A former priest faces up to 10 years in
prison when he’s sentenced in February for using a disabled man’s
money to participate in Internet scams. Sixty-seven-year-old
Cyprian Meier pleaded guilty to felony exploitation of a vulnerable
adult. Authorities say he took more than $29,000 from the bank
account of a paralyzed Bismarck man.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The Ward County Commission has taken an
initial step toward a one-year building permit moratorium in areas
of the Souris River flood plain. Commissioners want to postpone new
building and subdivision platting until they know more about flood
mitigation steps in the river valley that saw record flooding last
year. A final vote on the proposal is expected early next month.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A Fort Totten felon has been sentenced to
nearly two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a federal
firearms charge. Shobie Shaw is barred from having a gun after his
1999 conviction for felony destruction of property. Investigators
say he had a .22-caliber rifle.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Record-breaking warmth continues to
blanket North Dakota. The National Weather Service says high
temperature records were broken or tied yesterday in Bismarck,
Williston, Jamestown and Fargo. Most of the record temperatures
were in the 50s.
