– Four teenagers have been referred to juvenile court following thefts of items from numerous vehicles on Dec. 21 and 22 in Jamestown.
Detective Sergeant Leroy Gross with the Jamestown Police Department said Tuesday that two 17-year-olds and two 14-year-olds were referred to juvenile court in relation to the thefts on the night of Dec. 21 and early morning of Dec. 22. The teens were either cited for unathorized entry to a motor vehicle, or accomplice to it. The two 14-year-olds were also cited for curfew violations.
Gross said they’ve recovered at least $2,000 worth of stolen property, including phone cords, iPods, GPS units and change. He says a few purses were also stolen, and new victims are still coming to the police after noticing missing items in recent days.
“People are just noticing now, ‘Hey, something is missing out of my car,'” Gross said. “This will likely continue for a few weeks.”
More than 50 vehicles were gone through by the teenagers, and all had unlocked doors.
Gross advised people to remember to lock the doors to their cars, houses and garages, and also report suspicious activity. He says a report of suspicious activity led the police to the teenagers in this case.
