(NewsDakota.com)- The Jamestown College women’s basketball traveled to Dickinson, ND to take part in the Sam Milanovich Classic. They were matched up with two teams from Montana who compete in the Frontier Conference: Rocky Mountain College and Montana-Western.
JC knocked off Rocky Mountain College 91-83 and Montana-Western 78-65.
Friday afternoon the Jimmie Women took on the Battlin’ Bears of Rocky Mountain. The Jimmies fell behind early 10-2 in the games first couple minutes. They stormed back on a 13-2 run to take the lead and the Jimmies never trailed again to take a 91-83 win.
Kaeli Kraska had a dominate stretch where she scored eight straight points and showed everyone the kind of player she can be.
Every time JC appeared to take control of the game, the Battlin’ Bears had an answer. On three occasions, the Jimmies extended their lead to double-digits only to have Rocky Mountain pull within 6 or 8.
Megan Pold led the scoring with 15 in the first half and she finished with a team high 17.
In the second game, both teams got off to a slow start turning the ball over up and down the floor. Neither team was able to take control of the game in the early going.
JC found their grove late in the half and carried that over into the second-half. They were able to extend their lead above double-digits thanks to careless ball handling by Montana-Western.
The Lady Bulldogs had more 2nd-half turnovers then 2nd-half points for a large portion of the second-half. They continually threw the ball away against pressure.
Down the stretch it was the sharp shooting of Morgan Mathison and Carly Jensen that allowed the Jimmies to hold off a late-rally. They each finished with double-figures and accounted for all five three-pointers on the afternoon.
Bridget Schuneman paced the Jimmies with 22.
The two teams combined for 56 turnovers. Montana-Western finished with 29, JC had 26.
Up next: the Jimmie women will host Oglala Lakota College on Sunday at the Civic Center tip-off is set for 2pm.
