City, N.D. – Lennell Guertin of Valley City was honored by city officials during a city commission meeting on November 21.

Guertin an employee of Bank Forward performed a Heimlich maneuver to save the life of Gloria Van Dyke of Valley City on September 16 during a customer appreciation lunch.
Van Dyke says she started to choke on a piece a meat when Guertin saw her in distress she immediately performed the maneuver before the emergency medical staff arrived on the scene.
Van Dyke says she blacked out and was transported a Fargo hospital and recovered from the incident later that day.
Van Dyke says if it wasn’t for the quick response from Guertin she wouldn’t be here today.

The two women were honored by Valley City Mayor Bob Werkhoven and President of the Barnes County Commission Cindy Schwehr during the city meeting.
