N.D.-For the first time since 2007, residential water and sewer rates in Oakes will be going up. The Oakes City Council voted last week to pass resolutions that will increase the base amount for water and sewer rates effective at the start of 2012.
The base water rate will increase by $1.50, from $37.50 to $39 starting January 1, 2012. The base included 2,000 gallons per month and $2.75 per thousand gallons after the 2,000 mark. The base sewer rate will increase by $2, from $20 to $22 at the beginning of next year. In addition, the commercial sewer rates will be $32, and 50 cents per thousand gallons of water used.
In other business, the council approved installation of a street light at the intersection of 2nd Street and Lilac Avenue, and discussed the future of the city landfill. The current site has the potential of being closed very shortly due to lack of space.
The next council meeting is Monday, December 5 at 6 p.m.
