The Oakes High School Football team dominated Milnor/North Sargent on their homecoming night by the final score of 35-0.

The Tornadoes were able to score on their first two drives of the contest. In addition, Oakes had solid defense against one of the best quarterbacks in Josh Hansana, including a 30 yard interception return for a touchdown by sophomore Keaton Peterson in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, the Torandoes took the first 8:19 off the clock and scored to make the score 28-0. The Bulldogs had the ball for around 30 seconds in the third quarter, as the first play was a fumbled snap, and the second was a Bryce Meehl interception.

Oakes iced the game for good with a 23 yard touchdown throw from Trent Ptacek to Cody Vogeli on fourth down to make it 35-0. Meehl made all his PAT attempts.

“I am just so proud of our team tonight.” said Oakes High School coach Greg Dobitz. “We had great defense against one of the best quarterbacks in the state, and other than a couple of stupid penalties, we were able to do what it is we do to win games.”

With the win, Oakes improves to 5-1 overall, 4-1 in Class A Region I, and has secured a postseason berth. The Oakes first team defense has surrendered just 12 points the entire season, in a 12-7 loss to Linton-HMB earlier this month.

Oakes plays at home for the final two games of the season, and hosts Mayville-Portland/Clifford-Galesburg on Friday, October 7. Coverage starts at 6:30 on KDDR-AM 1220 and NewsDakota.com with kickoff schedule for 7 p.m.
