CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Hi-Liner tennis season came to an end in the Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) individual regional tournament with several competitors winning matches, but none qualifying for state.
Derek Reimers was the only Hi-Liner to win a first-round match, and won three total, dropping a match in a state qualifying contest.
“Reimers fought through a couple matches to make it to the state qualifier where he ran into a Red River player who ended up taking 5th in the East. I believe that if he would have been seeded correctly that he probably would have taken third or second. It was a good experience for Derek to play in the state qualifier as I foresee him trying to make it to state again next year in singles,” said head coach Matt Nielson”
Dustin Miller defeated teammate Cody Schmidt for his lone win. The teams of Austin Ross and Ricky Paulson and Wyatt Reinhart and Brandon Miller each picked up a win in the consolation round.
Nielson expressed optimism about the future of the program. “Our season is done, but the offseason has already started. To be more competitive next season, hours will have to be put into playing matches, tournaments, drills, and lessons. I think we have a motivated group of players and hope to see them all the time on the courts.”
