CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Hi-Liner girls golf team has been displaced by the summer flood of the Sheyenne River.
Bjornson Park Public Golf Course, the Hi-Liners’ home course in the fall, is inaccessible due to the high level of the river. The river is currently above the bridge that takes golfers from the clubhouse to the course.
With practice starting Monday, head coach Jim McDaniel has had to improvise.
“We can still use the chipping and putting green at Bjornson. We’re going to meet there Monday to get started, and work from there,” said McDaniel.
While the Hi-Liners can get work in on the green at Bjornson, driving the ball and playing holes will have to be done elsewhere until the river recedes.
One thought is the Valley City Town and Country Club, but McDaniel has concerns about his team using the course too often.
We’ve never had an access issue there, but I don’t want to get in the way of men’s night and women’s night, events that go on there,” McDaniel explained.
The team will use the Country Club when they can, work at Bjornson, and may also get a road trip in to “somewhere”, according to McDaniel.
Fall sports practices begin Monday with girls golf, boys tennis, and cross-country. Football for freshman-through-seniors will begin the following Wednesday.
The first event for the Hi-Liner girls golf team is scheduled for August 15th and 16th, a two-day event at Jamestown Country Club.
