City, N.D. –Valley City residents will have to wait a little longer for the conclusion of a saga over a verbal reprimand issued earlier this year against police chief Dean Ross by city administrator Jon Cameron.

An August 18 hearing is set on whether the reprimand issued to Ross should stand or not.
On Friday, Ross, through his attorney, made a request that the verbal reprimand be removed from his file.

Businessman Steve Ross told the commission on Monday they’re spending too much time on the reprimand and not enough time talking care of city business.

City attorney R. Jon Fitzner says the city will be represented by it’s insurance attorney at the August 18 hearing in district court.

Dean Ross has said since his May 3rd oral reprimand hearing that under city ordinance all orders to the police chief must come from the Mayor and not the city administrator.

Judge Daniel Narum ordered the city to either revoke the reprimand or show cause on August 18 as to why it should stand.

Ross remains on indefinite paid administrative leave from the city. Due to his leave, Chief Ross is not allowed to attend city meetings or be in city hall.

Meanwhile the investigation into alleged mismanagement of money from 4 separate accounts under Ross as police chief continues through the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
