Moorhead company was awarded the contract to build an outlet near Sanborn to drop the water level off a series of six lakes or slews that have caused problems with roads and a rail line east of Sanborn.

Barnes County Water Resource District board member Duane Lettenmaier says a 36 inch underground pipe will be nearly 3,000 linear feet long to help drop the lake level by 5 feet.
H&S contracting of Moorhead had the lowest bid of $280,000.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad will pay up to $300,000 for the project, if the cost rises above that figure the BCWRD would have to pay the remain cost.

The project is expected to start the first week of August and be completed on or before August 28.
