year ago, the Valley City Post 60 American Legion baseball team fought their way through a tough section, winning five straight games to advance to the state tournament.

A return trip, should one occur, would be won at Valley City’s home park.

Valley City plays host to the Section 1 tournament starting Tuesday, with eight teams converging on Charlie Brown Memorial Field for a chance at a state tourney bereth.

Wahpeton is again the top seed in the tournament, as they were a year ago.  Last year, they made the championship series, only to be beaten by Valley City twice on the final day.

This year, Wahpeton opens with Great Bend in the opening round.  The winner faces the winner of Valley City and Fairmount-Hankinson, a rematch of the first-round a year ago.

Enderlin starts the tournament with a date with Lidgerwood at 9:00 a.m.  The winner faces either Kindred or Harwood.

Wahpeton and Great Bend play game two, followed by Kindred and Harwood.  Valley City and Fairmount-Hankinson play at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.  The tournament continues through Saturday.
