petition to recall Valley City Mayor Bob Werkhoven and city commissioner Ken Evenson was approved by the Secretary of State’s office.

Committee Chairman Leroy Neubauer says he was moved to join the recall effort following the city commission’s actions during and after the Dean Ross reprimand hearing and the lack of transparency in the hiring of the special counsel to represent the city at the hearing.

City auditor Avis Richter says once the form is approved by the Secretary of States office petitioners will have 90 days to collect 25 percent of the total number of ballots cast in those respective elections.

That means 396 signatures are needed in the mayoral recall and another 354 signatures are required in the city commissioner recall election.
